Rehabilitation Stories

Peregrin Falcon

This adult Peregrine falcon came to Willowbrook in early May after being found down on the ground in Hyde Park in Chicago. As you can see by the photo, she has bands on her legs. She is part of the peregrine falcon program in the city of Chicago and all of her activities are monitored by local biologists. She is known as “Magnolia” and has been a successful breeder for approximately 6 years, raising over 14 chicks!

Upon arrival to the center, she was able to fly, but weakly. Dr. Higgs took x-rays of the bird, but they did not reveal any injury. Because of the special cage requirements for this species, Willowbrook was unable to keep the bird for rehabilitation. She was transferred to another local rehabilitation facility for continued care.

We will keep you updated on the bird’s condition and let you know if and when she is released to return to her mate!
