Rehabilitation Stories

Black Crowned Night Heron

This adult black-crowned night heron is an endangered species in Illinois. They are normally only found in this area during the summer months. During the winter they migrate to the southeastern US.

This bird was found at Hidden Lake Forest Preserve in Glen Ellyn, suffering from a badly fractured leg. Staff is unsure at this time if the bird’s leg will heal well enough for it to be released. If not, Willowbrook hopes to relocate the bird to a nearby zoo so that it can be exhibited and serve as an ambassador to its species.

Please help support the Willowbrook Wildlife Foundation to allow species such as this to be rehabilitated and cared for by the skilled staff of the Willowbrook Wildlife Center.
