Candling Eggs

Dr. Karen Higgs is shown here “candling” one of the 221 Blanding’s turtle eggs. She is using a small flashlight to look inside the egg to check for development of a baby turtle. After just 2-3 weeks of being laid, blood vessels become visible when the egg is viewed under bright light.
