Brown Creeper
This brown creeper is a threatened species in Illinois.
This bird came to Willowbrook in mid-November after being found on the ground in a resident’s yard. The bird appears to have hit a stationary object such as a window or a car and is suffering from a shoulder injury and head trauma.
The brown creeper is currently being housed in the Bird Nursery off exhibit from public to reduce the amount of stress. With cage rest and minimal handling, this bird will hopefully be released within a few weeks.
Brown creepers and other birds do not understand that they cannot fly through a window. They see the reflection of the sky and the trees and attempt to pass through them, only to cause mild to severe head trauma, often leading to its death.
